For many years finca owner Dr. Mierisch practiced medicine in the states due to the difficulties at home in Nicaragua until peace finally arrived. He and his family returned to Matagalpa, and Dr Mierish continues to provide medical care to local people. Work began restoring the fincas previously owned by his parents and his wife�s family which had been severly neglected during years of turmoil. After careful husbandry and a lot of care, the fincas are now producing gorgeous coffee once again.
Both farms are employing local people, choosing to invest in people rather than electric sorters so that more of what the coffee brings goes back into the community. Nicaragua left the forefront of the American coffee scene during the war and embargo, and only old coffee hands remember the fine Matagalpas and Jinotengas for which the country was once rightly famous.
This is an exceptional coffee, described as sweet, herby, beautifully balanced with a lingering finish. Medium body with just a hint of cinnamon within the finish. Nice finish – beautifully prepared. A unique bean which, in the hands of our skilled Roaster, comes alive.
